The old schoolhouse at Lisnaward, near Banbridge, has seen more winters than you can imagine. Back in the 1830’s, when the school was built, there was only one fireplace on the ground floor, to heat the whole building. The girls’ classroom was upstairs so that they could enjoy more heat than the boys downstairs. Although, the girls had to access their classroom using the granite steps on the outside.
